When you are most successful as an organization, that's when you're in the most dangerous position. When you're most successful as a leader or as a human being, that's when you're in your most vulnerable situation. Why? Because when you become more successful, it's easy to stop doing the very things that made you successful. In an organization, if you look at a lot of the organizations that are now obsolete, they were once great brands. They were once great names. You know them. I know them. I don't want to mention them. It would be disrespectful. But what happened? They were once iconic, and then they fell in love with their success. They stopped doing the very things that made them successful. They stopped innovating. They fell in love with their press releases. They stopped going the extra mile for their customers. They stopped being merchants of wow. They stopped delivering awesome value. And so remember, the moment you become successful, you want to be humble. You want to work harder. You want to get up earlier. You want to learn more. You want to be even more excellent. And that's what makes the icons.
