Train yourself to listen because when you listen to another person versus talking all the time, you make that person feel so much bigger in your presence. And that is the job of a real leader, to lift people up versus to tear them down. So start to practice. If you're not great at it, being a great listener, watch what happens to your community, watch what happens to your relationships, watch what happens when you meet a new client. or perhaps a new mentor, and you come prepared with great questions, they're astonished. A little while ago, a very famous rapper came to our home for lunch, and he showed up in his van, the door opened up, and there he was, this entertainment icon. And he had this satchel over his shirt. And when we sat down for this lunch of pasta and bruschetta and salad, he took off the satchel. and he opened it up and he pulled out a journal. And I said, what's that? And he goes, this is my personal journal. And I've got all these questions that I've been meaning to ask you. And so, do you mind if I ask you? And over the lunch, sure, we both shared, but he was asking me questions and then he was listening and he was writing down the answers. this is one of the most successful celebrities and entertainers on the planet. And he was listening. Remember, as mastery grows, increased humility. It was so powerful for me to experience that. And I wanted to share that scenario with you to encourage you to be the best listener you know so that you build an absolutely wonderful community into your life.
