Embrace Life's Everyday Graces As Sacred Gifts

Robin Sharma Season 1 Episode 1125

Embrace life’s everyday graces as sacred gifts. The dangerous thing about shiny toys and material treasures is that they become your drug of choice. They bring fleeting excitement and amazing inspiration only until they become your new normal. The positive psychologists call this quirk of human behavior “hedonic adaptiation”. We enjoy the novelty of the cherished watch, adored purse or enthusiastically imagined tech device until we grow bored with it. And then we begin our next hunt, like an addict obsessed with their next fix. Things never bring sustained pleasures. As a matter of fact, I humbly suggest, it’s only in life’s freest blessings that we’ll find a joy that lasts to the end.

This is what my latest book The Wealth Money Can’t Buy is all about. Real wealth versus fake success. True winning versus spending your life climbing a mountain, only to find out at the end that it was the wrong one. You can order it now by clicking here.

If the sunset only happened once every thousand years, you and the rest of humanity would be watching the sunset. But because it happens every night, we take it for granted. Positive psychologists call this mental, psychological phenomenon hedonic adaptation. Because the sunset happens a lot, our brains get used to it, so we take it for granted. And so what I'm suggesting to you is watch the sunset, because if you don't, you will miss it. And personally, I would rather have a gorgeous sunset than all these nice things. I would rather have a conversation with my children over a three-hour meal than all the money in the world. I would rather sit with my team and build a product that serves millions of people that have all the fame and fortune. I would rather mountain bike and connect with nature. and have a ride that opens my heart. Then all the worldly wins in the world
